WBL Annual Meeting

May 11, 2005

The meeting was called to order by Director Ted Ying at 7:15 PM.  He introduced President Dick Wegman.

Dick Wegman asked for the unanimous approval of last year’s minutes and the Treasurer’s Report.  Unanimous approval was given.

Dick recognized the assistance of the following persons who helped prepare the dinner: Carole Geagley, Kitty Gottfried, Eileen Houghton, Audrey Marbach, Barbara Shaw, Gloria Schulstad, and Nadine Wood.

Dick then introduced Jim Allen, Chairman of the Election Committee, who proceeded with the election of officers for 2005-2006.  Jim presented the slate of officers running for re-election as President (Dick Wegman), Vice President (Fred King), Secretary (Richard Ferrin), and Treasurer (Steve Robinson).  Jim asked for nominations for officers from the floor.  There were none.  Michael Carroad moved that nominations be closed.  The nomination was seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.  Having no nominations from the floor or opposition to the slate of incumbents, Jim stated that the above-noted slate was deemed elected.

Jim then presented four candidates running for election for the three non-officer Board positions up for election this year: Don Berman, Arnie Frankel, Clyde Kruskal, and Jane Sturgis.  Jim asked for nominations for officers from the floor.  There were none.  Michael Carroad moved that nominations be closed.  The nomination was seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

Jim asked for the candidates to offer speeches.  Arnie Frankel stated that he had no magic cure for the WBL’s problems, but if elected, he would do everything possible to fulfill the obligations of the post.  Clyde Kruskal stated that if elected, he would serve.  Neither Don Berman nor Jane Sturgis were available to give speeches.  Barbara Shaw stated that Don Berman has been the WBL’s webmaster, has been on the WBL Board for many years, and does good work.

Jim thanked Frances Burke, Audrey Marbach, and Gloria Schulstad for their assistance with the balloting.

Dick thanked Kitty Gottfried for her good work for hospitality for the WBL, and presented her with a plaque.  Dick thanked Ron Starr for his good work regarding the Bridge at Schools program, and presented him with a plaque.  Finally, Dick thanked Steve and Sandy Forsythe for running the Thursday night lesson and novice game concurrently with the Unit Game.  Dick noted that the Forsythes’ lesson and novice game has attracted 32 to 35 players per might.  Dick also noted the Forsythes’ running of the Instant Bridge Player program.  When last run last March, the program attracted 74 players.  Ted Ying added that the Forsythes have done a lot to help the game.
